Building Sonex 982 Sierra X-ray

Bob Meyers' Unofficial Airplane Builders Log

It's been a whirlwind of non building.

Kathy and I are back in Chicago after a five hour delay on the ground and one hour of circling in the air over Lansing, Michigan Monday night. At least we made it back home. When we went through O'hare at 1:30 am it was jammed with people NOT going anywhere because of the extreme thunderstorms.

I flew today and will be flying again tomorrow. An EAA chapter meeting Friday and picnic Saturday will also delay building. This stoppage had been planned but I would like to get building again soon.

No pictures but I am still doing a little work. I have the forward and bottom wing skins, the hinges and the root doubler all deburred. About half of the frame is deburred.

Flying has top priority through the 5th of September. That's when I've scheduled my PPL checkride. Next Monday I have a pre FAA checkride with a senior instructor from the flight school.

Also, next week I'm supposed to have my EAA Chapter Tech Counselor take a look at the work done. I only plan on finishing the clean up of the left wing by then. No work on the right wing until after the FAA Checkride.

I finished the remaining updrilling of the left wing flap hinge, which finished phase one of the wing skinning.

Phase two is taking the wing assembly apart and deburring - with some diversions along the way.

The left wing is going together smoothly. Today was the first full day of work since the last post and I made the most of it.

Here are new pictures with both me and Kathy making an appearance in this batch!

...and pretty exciting work at that. I finished the left wing frame and today, moved on to skinning the left wing!
